Pearls On A String – Strawberry Moon

The Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island, now known as North America, have long honoured the moon’s wisdom through the Thirteen Grandmother Moon Teachings. These teachings, based on the lunar calendar, offer invaluable insights into the interplay of the (natural) world and (the human) spirit.

We must be cautious in approaching the cultural insights of other traditions, attentive to bringing a quality of respectful curiosity to how these insights arise from the “Life commons” - what Thomas Berry called “the communion of subjects” - of which we are part and to the invitation that the different perspective may bring.

“Raspberry Moon” refers to the ripening of fruits in the northern summer.

It seems especially relevant at this time - in whatever hemisphere you live - because

it is often seen as a reminder of the importance of respecting boundaries. Like the thorns of the raspberry vine, our own and others’ boundaries require careful consideration if we are to be able to share in the bounty of love, compassion, and wisdom.

Whether in our personal or family lives, or on the bigger stage of our lives, the Raspberry Moon signals a moment for checking in on our relationships—with ourselves, our loved ones, and the wellness of our communities.

This month’s Pearls On A String invites to take a little time to see ourselves in each other, to care for one another, to speak with gentleness, and to offer support where it is needed most.

The format, as usual, will be a period of lightly guided reflection, followed by a sharing.

Pearls On A String happens on the last Friday of each month. All are invited. All are welcome.
