About the Workshop

Becoming Earthling: Roberto Assagioli meets Thomas Berry

Join us for an evening of community practice and reflection on the actual cosmological powers of the universe and their potential to transform our consciousness. Please note

What is Self - and self - in the context of the Universe?

How do we usefully and consciously recognise the impact of our place in the wider cosmos and its psychological impacts?

How do we usefully and consciously attend to the the impact of the wider cosmos on our psychologival and spiritual journey?

With what do we align - and how?

What happens when we do this?

You are invited to an ongoing community of practice to consider the cosmological forces that birthed and sustain us in terms of Universal Will unfolding, considering how the cosmos itself provides a context for exploring our integrity and role as a species.

Each of these gatherings will be an evening of 6 practices and modes of experiencing leading to a transformation of consciousness.

The intent of our circle is to deeply foster, through intimate dialogue, meditation, imagery, and conscious reflection a cosmological dialogue and relationship with the universe itself.

The practice will introduce the thought and writings of Thomas Berry Ph.D., CP and his principal student, Brian Swimme Ph.D.

Together, in a deeply experiential process we will bring the practices of psychosynthesis to the largest context and identity of ourselves, that of earth and cosmological beings. ‘Beyond the door of mystery’ and into relationship with the powers of the universe itself as our way forward as species.

What if the distant cosmos "out there” has dimensions that impact the “in here” of our thinking, feeling Being?

What if Universal Will really is Universal….?

What might such an expanded context have to tell us about our notions of “self”, purpose, participation, and personal power?

"Of our many identities, our cosmological identity is a natural fact. Learning to become this identity is the primary purpose of living." - Thomas Berry, Ph.D., CP

‘We are dominated by everything with which our self is identified. We can free ourselves through disidentification. The normal mistake we all make is to identify ourselves with some content of consciousness rather than with consciousness itself...But this identification with a part of the personality destroys the freedom which comes from the experience of the pure "I", or Self" - Assagioli

‘Re-enchantment with the Earth as a living reality is the condition for our rescue of the Earth from the impending destruction that we are imposing upon it. To carry this out effectively, we must now, in a sense, reinvent the human as a species within the community of life. Our sense of reality and value must consciously shift from the anthropocentric to a biocentric norm of reference.’ - Thomas Berry, Ph.D., CP

This session is offered "by donation". Once you have registered you will receive the Zoom link at no charge. You are invited to make a donation as little as $10 to AAP here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/donate-to-advance-psychosynthesis

Meet the Facilitator

Scott Thompson

Scott Thompson’s 40 year career has taken him from Army chaplaincy to psychotherapist and teacher. Scott has presented at local, national, and international workshops during a professional career integrating psychological and spiritual approaches to helping others. Grounded in Psychosynthesis as a living, existential process, he has, of late, become deeply concerned about the many indications of a planet in crisis. So inspired, he has brought Psychosynthesis principles to courses sharing the cosmological vision of “ecologian” Fr Thomas Berry and scientist, Brian Swimme, and now is demonstrating how that vision aligns with Psychosynthesis. , Scott has a private psychotherapy practice and is a member of the AAP steering committee, of which he is also a past Co-Chair, and board member of The Center for Spirituality and Psychotherapy of The National Institute for the Psychotherapies.
