The AAP does not distribute or provide any information on how to obtain these medicines. The AAP does not encourage the use of them without a trained professional, and encourages everyone to recognize that these are also not for everyone. However, it strongly believes that these tools (like others) are best used with wisdom and compassion. Now more than ever are we faced with choice points to recognize and approach the growing body of research on the benefits of both micro and macro dosages of entheogenics (aka psychedelics). The AAP recognizes that psychosynthesis offers an ever-expanding platform to discuss these tools in a safe and holistic setting, always attempting to balance the foundational knowledge and wisdom from ancestral practices (still in use today), with the vast amount of clinical studies, focused psychological and brain science research and the tremendous amount of anecdotal experiences. Psychosynthesis is about purpose, meaning and values, and is directed towards the growth of one's personal and transpersonal psychosynthesis. Assagioli always encouraged his students that the map is not the territory, and therefore entheogens themselves are not a be-all and end-all of life, and psychosynthesis is always ever-expanding in its practices/methods. It is well-suited to help assist the emerging interest that dates back to our ancestral behavior: the setting of intentions, grounding and centering necessary to fully integrate transpersonal, psychospiritual experiences in a healthy, sustainable and harmonious way.
Stanislav Grof, Realms of the Human Unconscious, 1975:
"It does not seem inappropriate or an exaggeration to compare their [psychedlics'] potential significance for psychiatry to that of the microscope for medicine or the telescope for astronomy."
