with Raúl Quiñones-Rosado, PhD

Race, racial identity and racism, generally, are not considered topics of concern or issues to be dealt with within the fields of psychotherapy and coaching, and perhaps even less so within the field of transpersonal psychology. Understanding and, moreover, addressing race and racism are typically relegated to sociologists, social activists, religious leaders and others to make the obvious social, political, economic, moral and ethical arguments to end racist structures and change a culture that hinders the basic well-being of People of Color. Yet few, if any, speak to the potential of antiracism as a pathway to the transpersonal: the source of unity that transcends individuality and racial group identity; the ground of a collective consciousness that is key to the integral well-being of People of Color AND of White people.

In this Zoom meeting, Dr. Quiñones-Rosado will briefly explain how racial identities are psychologically constructed in the context of racism and how they evolve through developmental stages. He will also point to how racial identity development coincides with other processes in the development of human consciousness and the emergence of the transpersonal in human relationships — a convergence of developmental processes in the context of antiracism struggle. With participants, he will also explore how each of us might take our rightful place within the Movement for Black Lives and this historical opportunity for cultural transformation.

In my book, "Consciousness-in-Action: Toward an Integral Psychology of Liberation & Transformation," I describe myself as a "middle-aged, brown-skinned, US-born, Puerto Rico-raised cultural heir to vanquished Taínos, enslaved Africans and mixed-race Spanish colonizers; Caribbean, Latin American and (involuntary) US citizen; college-educated, working class migrant-commuter; Christian, Buddhist, pagan non-practitioner; partnered heterosexual male and father, who also happens to be an anti-oppression educator, organizer, activist, life coach, social psychologist, author and scholar."

Since the '80s, I've been involved in movements against racism, colonialism, militarism and other forms of oppression. I have established and directed three organizations committed to developing leadership in communities-of-struggle in Puerto Rico and the US.

I continue to teach, train and coach through c-Integral, using consciousness-in-action as a conceptual model and decolonial approach to liberating transformation for integral well-being and sustainable development: "bienestar y buen vivir."

I  am a trainer-organizer with Racial Equity Institute (Greensboro NC). I have also worked with The People's Institute for Survival & Beyond (New Orleans, LA).

In addition to a PhD in integral, liberation and transformation psychologies, I am trained in Psychosynthesis counseling and life coaching, NLP, martial and healing arts, consciousness studies, and anti-oppression organizational development. I have been a meditation practitioner for almost 40 years.

My writings appear in academic, spiritual, political, and professional publications, and I present the consciousness-in-action approach to audiences internationally.

Fee is Free to Members and $25 to non members.
